Trimming Your Dog’s Nails

You need to keep your dog’s nails short so he can get a good grip on the ground when walking or running. And long nails can put your dog’s does at a weird angle that could hurt or tear if caught. Thus it is important to trim your dog’s nails regularly. Start when your dog is young so it becomes routine. Handle your dog’s feet and toes so he becomes accustomed to your touch. When you are ready to trim the nails, act quickly and efficiently. Grasp your dog’s foot and trim the nails a little at a time while avoiding the quick. The quick is the blood and nerve supply to the nail and will bleed and hurt if nicked. Continue trimming as long as your dog doesn’t resist. Never yell at your dog or punish him if he pulls away. Just try another time. Learn more from your Plano, TX veterinary clinic. Or set an appointment at this link:
