Your dog needs exercise to stay happy and healthy. Daily walks can offer your dog the exercise he needs plus the opportunity to socialize with other dogs and people. It can be a bonding experience for you too but isn’t fun if your dog drags you around the neighborhood. Work to teach your dog to walk with a slack leash. Start walking and continue as long as the leash is slack. If it becomes taut, turn around quickly to go in the opposite direction. Call your dog so he needs to hurry to catch up. Continue this over and over until your dog gets the idea that he should walk with a slack leash. If your dog gets overly excited, stop and have him sit for a minute or two until he calms down. Praise your dog when he walks properly. Learn more from your Conyers, GA veterinary clinic.
