If your Irish Setter’s eye appears to be swelling or bulging away from the socket, call your vet immediately. This is not an uncommon injury, however, it should be treated by a professional right away. Sometimes an injury close to the eye or somewhere on the head can cause pressure to build up which in turn can cause eye swelling or bulging. No matter the cause, do not try to repair the eye yourself. Quickly cover the eye with a damp, clean cloth and hold it in place with a loosely wrapped bandage around the head. If possible, soak the cloth in warm, salty water to help preserve the eye. Take your dog to the vet as quickly as possible. While on the phone, ask your vet if you should go to an emergency veterinary ophthalmologist instead. Learn more here.
