Changing your FeLV Positive Ocicat’s Diet

Cats like the Ocicat that have developed FeLV or the Feline Leukemia Virus may develop anemia, lymphoma or other cancers that are susceptible to other diseases due to a suppressed immune system. If your Ocicat has tested positive for FeLV talk to your vet about treatment and management options. Your vet will most likely suggest a new diet for your Ocicat to help prevent secondary infections. You may need to provide your infected cat with a nutritional diet that is free of raw meat, eggs and unpasteurized dairy products as these may harbor bacteria and parasites that can lead to infection. It’s important to note that there is no cure for FeLV and that many treatments are given to help manage the symptoms as well as prevent secondary infections due to the cat’s compromised immune system. Talk with your best vets Plano, TX to learn more.
