Uveitis in Champagne Ferrets

Champagne ferrets can be fun loving pets with super curious personalities. If you’re thinking of adopting one, make sure you talk to your vet first and become familiar with the various health issues that can develop in ferrets. For instance, Champagne ferrets and other types of ferrets are known to develop eye conditions such as Uveitis. Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea or the middle layer of the eye. Ferrets are at risk for Uveitis at just about any age. The condition is most often caused by trauma to the eye. For instance, a wound to the eye can become infected, which can lead to the development of the Aleutian’s disease virus known as Uveitis. Uveitis can then lead to other diseases of the eye including cataracts and glaucoma. Unlike other eye conditions in ferrets, Uveitis can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications. Call your vet Marietta, GA for more details.
